Welcome to my ePortfolio! My name is Corey Spencer (Student ID: 19028327).

I am a student at Western Sydney University, the College and currently I am completing my Diploma in Health Science – Health and Physical Education (HPE). I have always been interested in applied sciences that address the use of science, technology, engineering or mathematics in the delivery of healthcare.

The main purpose of my ePortfolio is to create a reflection of my undergoing continuous personal development and to provide a sense of personal ownership over my accomplishments. What is useful about this ePortfolio is that, in the nearby future I can use this website as evidence of achievements, experiences and personal development which furthermore, can be presented to an employer of a company.

Communication is our way of exchanging information. It is an important tool in a healthcare setting that when used effectively can educate, empower and de-threaten common health issues patients present with in the practice. Physiotherapists are apart of a multidisciplinary team in that they can have substantially more contact time with clients than other members of the team.

I find physiotherapy an interesting career path as it’s not just theoretical it is also contains a highly practical hands on approach with patients in helping to improve their well-being. Effective communication and interactions creates a strong positive relationship between healthcare team members and clients. Furthermore, these interaction and communication skills when displayed in my future profession as a Physiotherapist can improve overall satisfaction and contribute towards better long-term health outcomes.

It is important for a patient to understand the information provided as it can have an impact on healthcare decisions that they might make in the future. If communication skills and interactions are not effective, patients might not understand the information they receive, therefore increasing the risk of instructions being followed incorrectly, or an adverse event occurring.

As a future health service provider, its vital to consider the communication needs of each patient and to continually review my communication approach.
